Copy and paste the questions. Then type your answers below each question. Make sure to put your answers in your own words (don’t copy from the textbook b/c it will be flagged as plagiarism). You can upload your Word document to the link in the Submit Work folder before the deadline to get up to 4 points (dependent on quality). All of the questions must be answered in order to receive any credit. Use complete sentences! 1. How is prediction related to correlation? Prediction is related to correlation because in both cases there is a relationship between the two variables. When there is a correlation between two variables, the relationship is defined in a way that should be able to predict outcomes between those same two variables. 2. What is the difference between predictor variables and criterion variables? Predictor variables are those that predict the other variable. The criterion variable is the other variable that is actually being predicted. For example, MCAT scores are used as a predictor variable to predict one’s success in Medical School (the criterion variable). 3. Explain how the linear prediction rule, regression constant, and regression coefficient relate. The linear prediction rule is an equation of a line that is used for making predictions. From math, everyone should know that y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept. The y intercept is the number on the y axis that the line hits when x=0. When talking about regression, the linear prediction rule looks similar but the symbols are different: =a +b(x). The letter ‘b,’ formally known Ŷ as slope is now called the regression coefficient and the letter ‘a’ is now called the regression
