My business email is provided by an exchange server and also sent to my blackberry through a Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) that is managed by my company’s administrator. These both use Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) which uses TCP in order to manage the transmission of the messages across the internet. For personal email I use Microsoft Outlook to access my ISP email server, this server uses POP3 (Post Office Protocol) to send and receive email. This protocol also uses SMTP. Part 2 A domain name is recognized by a computer because of the translation by the Domain Name System (DNS). This system translates the name to an IP address that the computer will recognize.
