According to Forbes magazine, as of 2010 it is also the 9 th largest private company in United States (Ray, 2010). Ernst & Young is a global organization of member firms in more than 140 countries. Its global headquarters are based in London, UK. EY Global does not perform client work. It sets global standards and oversees global policy and consistency of service. Worldwide, they employ 135,000 people and they are united by the company’s shared values and an unwavering commitment to quality. Ernst and Young makes a difference by helping people, their clients and wider communities achieve their potential. They aim to have a positive impact on businesses and markets, as well as on society as a whole (Ernst & Young). Vision Statement: The Company’s vision statement states; “Flexibility is part of our inclusive culture and is critical to our business success. Our people and teams strive to incorporate individuals' unique perspectives and respect their differing needs as they pursue personal and professional success ”. The vision statement of Ernst and Young also defines the organizations purpose, in terms of the organization’s values which we studied in the book that they are guiding beliefs about how things should be done, rather than bottom line measures. The part I liked about the Ernst & Young’s vision statement is that it communicates both purpose and values of the organization. For employees, it gives direction about how they are expected to behave and inspires them to give their best. The part I did not like about their vision statement is that instead of mentioning about their clients, they said “our inclusive culture”. They should have written a sentence about how company’s success is shared with clients. Mission Statement: The Company’s mission statement states; “At Ernst & Young, we support you in achieving your unique potential wherever you are in the world – both personally and professionally. We give you stretching and rewarding experiences that keep you motivated, working in an atmosphere of integrity and teaming with some of the world’s most successful companies. And while we encourage you to take personal responsibility for your career, we support you in your professional development in every way we can. You enjoy the flexibility to devote time to what matters to you, in your business and personal life. At Ernst & Young, we know it’s your point of view, energy and enthusiasm that make the difference.” The mission statement of Ernst and Young is quite long, on the power point slides says 30-35 words in length, but it does present the company’s current state, organization's purpose and primary objectives.
