ART CREATION 2 Art Creation Poems, music, and dance are not only utilized to provide entertainment to the listener or viewer. In addition to that, they help express feelings and ideas that the composer is trying to convey. Growing up I have been exposed to modern dancing and even religious dancing which have allowed me to connect with music at a deeper level. Although I have personal experiences with dance and music for this assignment, I will be stepping out of my comfort zone focusing on poetry. According to Chamberlain College of Nursing (2020), poetry implements those qualities of language helping convey meanings other than the literal meaning. Written poetry was first introduced in prehistoric times and to this day it is a form of literature we utilize. Inspiration Piece The poem I will use as my inspiration is The Lanyard by Billy Collins. The Lanyard was written in 2005 in a book Collins published called “The Trouble with Poetry” . He wrote this poem in a story form which is known to be a narrative genre. Throughout this piece, Collins opens up about his “realization that the generosity of a mother can only be inadequately be repaid” (Patrick, n.d). It is quite a beautiful, thoughtful, and heartwarming piece. As you read the poem you will quickly realize that the literary details Collins used were instilling a metaphor.
