Christine Nguyen November 7, 2010 History essay The Nanjing Massacre was a period of Japanese brutalization, that took place during and after the bombing of the Chinese capital, by Japan in 1937. It is a testimony to the atrocities committed during that time, that the Nanjing Massacre continues to be a symbol of Japanese cruelty for China. The Nanjing Massacre was unquestionably, a senseless, rampage act of human barbarism. Even today, newspaper articles and public gatherings with take place to ritualize the Nanjing Massacre, igniting anti-Japanese sentiment. These events are in direct correlation to the rise of racism and hatred in China against Japan. While the Nanjing Massacre and the scar it left on the Chinese people should never be forgotten, one must question if these are the right steps being taken to heal that scar?
