BCMB 401- Biochemistry What you should already know coming into this class. If you don’t know this stuff, we highly recommend you learn or re-learn it as soon as possible. You will be expected to apply all of this information early in and throughout this class. 1. Basic mathematics- including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, log, natural log. For instance, if you’re given values for all the variables in this equation, can you solve for Δ G? Δ G = Δ G o' + RT ln([B]/[A] 2. Basic graphing- You will need to plot graphs and determine X and Y intercepts. Can plot the data in this table? Can you take this table of data and calculate and plot 1/V versus 1/[S] and determine the X and Y intercepts? [S] uM [V] (umole/min/ml) 0.1 10 0.4 20 1.0 35 4.0 43 3. Basic chemistry- You are expected to have taken introductory chemistry. This means you should be familiar with concepts such as: buffering, pH, molecular weight, molarity, and moles. You should be able to calculate molarity if given weight, molecular weight
