Final Essay 2 Part One As the chief editor here at the Metropolitan Daily Newspaper. I have a lot of responsibilities that come with the job that keep me very busy. I absolutly love my job and the various opportunities I am faced with daily. Most recently I am having to handle an issue with one of my journalists by the name of Rick. It has been brought to my attention that he has been fabricating sources and facts on strories he has been writing. Ever journalist is supposed to live by a cose of ethics which says, “Members of the Society of Professional Journalists believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues. Conscientious journalists from all media and specialties strive to serve the public with thoroughness and honesty. Professional integrity is the cornerstone of a journalist's credibility. Members of the Society share a dedication to ethical behavior and adopt this code to declare the Society's principles and standards of practice.”(SPJ Code of Ethics) When I get to sit down with Rick I will first let him know how much I appreciate all his hard work and dedication with the paper, but the recent events that have transpired will not and can not be tolerated. I want to make it clear to Rick that if anything like this happens again, he will no longer have a job with the paper. I will have him sign a corrective action report that states the violations he has made and also to fulfill his job descriptiont o the best of his abilities by making sure he is reporting only the facts and making sure his sources are credible.
