The book made the various ones it discusses sound like secret cults. Were these a negative thing at the time? If so, why were there so many, and why did people join them, sometimes even more than one at a time? My question is why is Jesus birthday celebrated on what was originally Mithrass birthday? Is it simply because scholars could not find an accurate date as to when Jesus was born or is there another reason behind it? I understand the parallel of how Mithras was born on winter solstice which signifies light of the world. Is that the only or real reason the church chose this to be Jesus birthday as well?...
