Unformatted text preview: Statistics 5021 – Homework 6 (solutions) There are 20 total points. This homework is due Thursday, April 7 in your lab section. In this homework, you will analyze a dataset (preferably using R ). The data are from an experiment where 24 animals were assigned to one of four diets and then blood coagulation times were measured for each animal. These data are available for download on Moodle in the file “blood.txt”. 1. In the dataset, the response is called coag and the factor is called diet , with four levels. Produce numerical summaries of the data of your choosing. How many subjects had diet level D? Solution: We will make a general summary of the dataset > dat=read.table("blood.txt") > summary(dat) coag diet Min. :56.00 A:4 1st Qu.:61.75 B:6 Median :63.50 C:6 Mean :64.00 D:8 3rd Qu.:67.00 Max. :71.00 we see that there are 8 animals with diet level D. We next report the numerical sum- maries of the blood coagulation times for each diet: > by(dat, dat\$diet, summary) dat\$diet: A coag diet Min. :59.00 A:4 1st Qu.:59.75 B:0 Median :61.00 C:0 Mean :61.00 D:0 3rd Qu.:62.25 Max. :63.00------------------------------------------------------------ dat\$diet: B coag diet Min. :63.00 A:0 1st Qu.:64.25 B:6 Median :65.50 C:0 1 Mean :66.00 D:0 3rd Qu.:66.75 Max. :71.00------------------------------------------------------------ dat\$diet: C coag diet Min.Min....
