PARTS LIST Equipment : IBM PC or Compatible with Windows 2000 or Higher DC Power Supply Oscilloscope Parts : 1 – 74LS04 Hex NOT-Gate Integrated Circuit 1 – 74LS47 BCD-to-Seven-Segment Decoder Integrated Circuit 1 – 74LS148 8-Line-to-3-Line Priority Encoder Integrated Circuit 1 – 74LS157 Quad 2-to-1 Multiplexer Integrated Circuit 3 – Sets of Four SPDT Switch, DIP Configuration 1 – KB 72 Seven Segment Display (Common Anode) 7 – 330Ω Resistors, 5% 1 – Breadboard and hookup wire Software : Multisim Version 8 or higher III. INTRODUCTION The purpose of this lab is to give practical experience in using decoders, encoders and multiplexers. The circuits in this lab utilize four primary components, the 74LS148 8-to- 3 priority encoder, the 74LS47 BCD-to-seven-segment decoder, the 74LS157 2-to-1 multiplexer and a seven segment display. The 74LS148, shown at the right from the ti.com website, has nine inputs and five outputs. The data inputs are indicated by the numbers 0 – 7 and the encoded outputs are labeled A0 – A2. The additional input, EI, and the two additional outputs, EO and GS, are used for cascading chips when more than eight inputs are required. ECET-230
