Axia College Material Appendix A Midterm Exam Access the Week Four Electronic Reserve Readings located under the materials section of your student website. Read this week’s Electronic Reserve Readings. Write a paragraph of approximately 100 words for each section listed below. 1. Using the critical thinking skills you have gained so far and referring to the materials provided for this assignment, identify two possible strategies that Thomas Hutchinson or Samuel Adams likely used to develop and improve their thinking as those historical events unfolded prior to taking a stand and acting according to their beliefs. Two possible strategies that Thomas Hutchinson or Samuel Adams possibly developed and used to develop and improve their thinking were, weighing pros and cons and solicitation. Thomas Hutchinson was a man who felt that ties needed to be maintained with England in order to maintain peace between them and the colonies. He most likely weighed the pros and cons in order to increase trade for the colonies and placing them in a better position economically. This angered Samuel Adams and the radicals. The radical’s list of pros and cons showed more negative than positive when considering taxation without representation. It was likely determined through solicitation of opinion among colonists that a good number of them agreed with the radicals. 2. Explain the importance of building a foundation for critical and creative thinking when evaluating historical events such as the Boston Tea Party. A foundation for critical and creative thinking is important in order to have a foundation from which to build a solid opinion. When looking at historical events in general and the Boston Tea Party in particular it is important to note that history is just that, events that took place in the past. Just like any other topic, there is more than one point of view. With this in mind, research has to be done in order to find information and details that are repeated because that is the information that is most likely accurate. One should never settle for the first piece of information they come across. 3.
