Organizational Behavior Lesson #3 Assignment #3 Study Chapter 3 Organizational Behavior Case, "Keeping Things the Same," found on pages 89-90 of Organizational Behavior (11th Edition) and answer the following questions: 1. What can Clara and her staff do to select the type of entry-level candidates they want? Explain. Clara states that the type of employees she wants are hardworking, dedicated, talented, and the ability to interact well with patients, and, although she did not specifically mention it, with each other. It would serve her well to place these qualities in her job listings and reiterate them during the job interview. As the text suggests, those that get a realistic perception of the position will likely fit into the culture better. She and her staff will likely have less of a challenge in selecting suitable candidates for entry-level positions as typically, they have not become set in their ways as more senior staffers may have. She would need to have a well thought out series of interview questions and check all references to be thorough. Perhaps to gauge dedication and responsibility, she could ask a question about what a potential employee would do if she had tickets to the big football game, and no one would cover her shift. A question about confidentiality would be particularly helpful in a hospital setting. For example, what would an employee do if he found out his friend’s partner tested positive for HIV?
