-Kevin Phillips Psyc 100 9/13/10 Journal 1 I was walking through the store in the beginning of the school year to pick up some extra supplies for my dorm room, when I noticed a small child screaming and crying to his mother. He could not have been more than 6 or 7 years old and he was crying to his mother because he had asked her for a Buzz Lightyear action figure that he had seen in the toy isle; obviously he had been denied. Eventually, after quite a few annoying minutes of crying and complaining, the mother had finally given into her child’s demands with a big sigh. After learning about development of children in psychology, I remembered this event and wondered about this mothers parenting style. I could definitely see the permissive style of parenting that she had used. She would give into her child’s demands ultimately making him a spoiled brat. The child showed his immaturity most likely caused by his mother’s parenting style by crying in public in the middle of the store.
