Large Numbers Congress approved (at least) \$50 Billion dollars in Katrina relief fall 2005 That is \$50,000,000,000. Rather than write out all the zeros, we use scientific notation: 5* 1010 Calculator may say 5.0E10 1010 is 1 followed by 10 zeros or 10 times itself 10 times. Move decimal place 10 spaces to right to go from scientific notation to decimal form Scientific notation is used for very LARGE numbers

Go both ways 125,000 in scientific notation is A: 125*103 B: 1.25*103 C: 0.125*106 D: 1.25*105 1.02*108 is A: 10,200,000,000 B: 102,000,000 C: 1.028 D: 1,000,000,002
If we divide by 10 (rather than multiply by 10) repeatedly we get numbers like 10-3 = (1/10)3 = 1/(103)=1/1000=.001 Move decimal place 3 places to the left. So 2.3*10-5 = 0.000023
