The Elements of Thought and Intellectual Standards are the basics for the Paul and Elder critical thinking model. Choose three of each (the Elements of Thought and Intellectual Standards) and explain why you think they are integral to the critical thinking process. Three elements of thought integral to the critical thinking process: 1. The purpose . There is no reasoning without a purpose. The purpose is what we are trying to demonstrate, the element that will drive the critical thinker to search for information and establish common assumptions about the subject to be debated or demonstrated. The same way a driver needs a destination or the scientist needs hypothesis to be confirmed or refuted to establish theories and laws, the thinker must have a purpose to her or his argumentation. 2.
