Computer concepts and applications – CIS107 Discussion Forum 1 Gabriel A. Godart Thomas Edison State College. Ethics and Issues 1-4. What should be done about Identity Theft? In 2007, more than 9 million Americans were victims of identity theft. Identity theft takes place when your personal information such as your name, your social security number, your address and other unique data are used by someone else, an identity thief, without your knowledge. It can take several forms such as Dumpster Diving, Skimming, Phishing, Changing your address, Old fashion stealing or Pretexting. It is needless to develop on the great damages this can cause you financially and emotionally. However, it is important to focus on who should be responsible for protecting the public from this pandemic, if the laws must be changed, what punishment should an identity thief incur and finally, how should foreign thieves be handled. I strongly believe that the responsibility of protecting the public from internet identity theft does not rest
