5/10/11 Hemophilia A – Defect in clotting Factor VIII (encoded on the X-chromosome) A recessive human genetic disease. A male has only one copy of the Factor VIII –if it is a mutant allele he has hemophilia. A female has two copies – only if BOTH are mutant (homozygous recessive) will she have hemophilia (rare)
