Assignment: Institutional Pharmacy Setting There are many tasks that make an institutional or non-institutional pharmacy run as needed. Depending on the pharmacy and its setting will determine how well the pharmacy runs on a day-to- day basis. The following is a brief compare and contrast of how differently an institutional pharmacy and a non-institutional pharmacy may be operated. An institutional pharmacy is dedicated to providing products and service all day, every day because they address all types of needs, from emergency to regular. Usually, in this type of setting, there are rules, regulations and protocols one must follow to enable pharmacists and technicians to provide the best quality of care. When it is time to dispense drugs to patients, there are certain systems one must use to ensure that patients have the correct medications dispensed at the correct time and in the correct dosage and form. These particular dispensing systems enable pharmacists and technicians to easily administer medications in the proper dosages. By doing this, it ensures that the staff can save time, prevent any errors with the medication and make it easier to keep up with all medication usage. The tasks of a pharmacy technician can vary depending on where they are employed, but most technicians all share the same general tasks. Usually, when under supervision by the pharmacist, a technician can assist in data collection and reporting. During this process, the
