- TCM=Traditional Chinese Medicine (video): -how does TCM understand the human body?: something called “chi” flows through the body, and these energy channels need to freely flow through the body or pain will occur (acupuncture helps open airways for chi to flow); heat treatment can be given to acu-points as well to aide chi; in Chinese medicine it matters not what the body is made of, but how the system works as a whole (yin and yang, where if there is a disease of a yin nature, it will be treated with a medicine of a yang nature, and vice versa); each human body is thought to be the world in miniature, each organ corresponding to a phase in the body (for example, the heart is fire, the lungs are metal, and metal can be affected by fire…) -what do TCM doctors look for in examining the patient and diagnosing illness?: doctors diagnose patients by examining their tongues (apparently a lot about health can be read in the tongue; moisture, color, coating, shape), smelling and listening to patients, taking
