Unformatted text preview: Kang, (Haira) Esther As Am 71, W 5-5:50 Response 4 Russell Jeung’s “New Asian American Churches and Symbolic Racial Identity” discusses the differences between ethnic churches and pan-ethnic churches. He describes three different types of churches in his article to compare and contrast the different churches available for Asian Americans. With this, Asian Americans can find a church that best fits their religious needs. Ethnic churches share an ethnic heritage, therefore the church is centered on the ethnic background such as the appearance of the church, the language, and the cultural traditions. The ethnic churches offer language classes to children and celebrate ethnic holidays. The culture affects the time of worship and fellowship time because different ethnicities have different styles of praising God and communicating with fellow Church members.
