1. The artifact I have chosen is the Rosie the Riveter “We Can Do It” Poster.2. The poster consists of a woman in coveralls and a red bandana tied around her hair. She is flexing her muscles in her arm. Above her is written, “WE CAN DO IT” in bold, blue lettering. The ad is sponsored by the war production coordinating committee. 3. The main element of this poster that is most important is the portrayal of women. Rosie’s strength and demeanor go against the typical expectation of women prior to WWII. Her facial expression is showing confidence and strength while still maintaining her womanly appearance. Ifeel if this poster was done with any other medium it would have been less effective and not withstood the test of time like Rosie did4. I feel the purpose of this artifact was to promote women into working in jobs typically held by men. During World War II, many men were drafted or voluntarily enlisted in the US Military.
