AP Literature and Composition Pride and Prejudice Seminars Brennan You will be responsible for organizing and running a seminar for 15 minutes of class on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. You will lead the class for 10 minutes on one of the following ideas about cultural background or writing style, sharing the information, creating a visual presentation, and ending with a five minute class activity, questioning or discussion which demonstrates your classmates’ understanding of the material you have presented. You will work in groups of four. Some ideas to consider might be: Austen’s writing style and use of literary devices, especially narrative structure Marriage and courtship practices of the Regency Period Class structure in 18 th -19 th century Great Britain Education of women in late 18 th and early 19 th century Britain Status of women in British society Power in relationships Important settings in the novel Biography of Jane Austen, and relationship to the novel
