Name:________________________________________  Date:_____________________ Career Experience Program Curriculum BUDGETS AND FINANCES Good money management will help you get the most from your paycheck.  During your working  lifetime, which is often 40 to 45 years, you will earn a great deal of money.  It could be from over  $500,000 to well over a several millions by today’s standards.  If you are to spend this sum of  money wisely, good money management is necessary. Money management begins with a budget.  Understand that “needs” are things you must have  for living, like food, clothing and housing.  “Wants” are extras or luxuries, such as trips,  entertainment or expensive cars.  A budget worksheet will allow you to examine where spending  should be cut or other income adjustments should be made.  A sample has been provided  below for your review.   Your assignment is to complete a “ Basic Monthly Budget Worksheet ” which you will find on  the other side.  In order to complete this assignment successfully, you will need to do the  following: 1) Plan to start this assignment  a month before  it is due. 2) Fill in the “Estimated Monthly Budget Amount” column on the worksheet at the  beginning   of the month. 3) Collect  your expense receipts starting at the  beginning of the month  and place them  in an envelope.  Turn these in with your completed assignment. 4) At the  end of the month  record your receipt totals in the “Monthly Actual Amounts”  column.  Receipts will be returned to student the following month. 5) Complete the last column “Difference Between Estimated and Monthly Actual Amounts”.  If you need help with this assignment, please feel free to ask for help or clarification.
