One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Final Exam Essay For each of the following essay topics, you can choose to consider only One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest or write a comparison essay involving any of the texts that we have studied in class this year. Your essay should be 3-5 pages in length and will be due on Monday, May 17 th ! Your paper must be in MLA format (including in-text citations) and you must submit your paper to turnitin.com prior to turning in a hard copy on the 17 th . Essay Topics 1. Truth For this topic, you should: Consider that Chief Bromden says that the story he tells is "true even if it didn't happen" Record instances of narrative truth/non-truth. Struggle with the idea that something could be true even if it didn't happen What is truth? What effect does an unreliable narrator have on you as a reader? Paper should examine narrative truth in American literature as a whole or One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Example: Holden, in Catcher in the Rye , thinks that everyone else is phony. Is this true or is it only true in terms of Holden’s limited perspective? How does Ken Kesey's novel relate to this? In what ways is his book more truthful/less truthful? 2.
