Catcher Essay (Argumentative/Persuasive Essay) Grading Rubric: Category Description Points/Comments Thesis Statement Thesis statement clearly describes the argument of the paper and introduces purpose for writing. The topic is narrow and manageable Relevant, telling, quality details give important information that goes beyond obvious. Ideas are fresh and original The author has picked out significant points of evidence and analyzed that evidence to support the argument. 1 2 3 4 5 Organization Inviting introduction draws the reader in; conclusion leaves reader with a sense of conclusion. Thoughtful transitions show connections between ideas Sequence of points is logical and effective. Writer slows down to elaborate important points. Paragraphs are broken at appropriate places to enhance the argument.
