PreIB10: World Literature and Composition Adkisson Unit 4: Tale of Two Cities Unit Goals, Objectives, Expectations, and Tentative Calendar Unit Goals and Objectives: 1. Students will be able to annotate and track various themes throughout the novel in an effort to be able to explain those themes in detail. 2. Students will analyze how themes are conveyed through various literary devices. 3. Students will demonstrate understanding of annotation techniques and other reading strategies to enhance understanding and aid in preparation for a final exam essay. 4. Students will develop writing skills through construction of a descriptive paragraph focusing on one of the main characters in the novel. 5. Students will discuss literature in a community of learners in an attempt to better understand the text and the themes presented, as well as to challenge their thinking. Unit Guiding Questions/Themes (Think about these as possible Timed Writing Prompts): Book is about the poor and exploited and the brutality and mayhem that may result from revolution. Mob tyranny can be as frightening as any oppressive ruler.
