PreIB10: World Literature and Composition Adkisson Unit 2: Oedipus the King (DRAMA) Unit Goals, Objectives, Expectations, and Tentative Calendar Unit Goals and Objectives: 1. Students will be able to identify and explain the use of a variety of literary devices present in Sophocles’ work, Oedipus the King. 2. Students will be able to track themes throughout a dramatic work and analyze how those themes are conveyed through various literary devices and elements of tragedy. 3. Students will develop a creative response to demonstrate understanding of the dramatic text and the complexity of characters/plot. 4. Students will understand Aristotle’s components of tragedy and how those elements work in the drama. 5. Students will discuss literature in a community of learners in an attempt to better understand the text and the themes presented, as well as to challenge their thinking. Unit Guiding Questions/Themes: 1. What is a tragic hero? How does this differ from our previous definitions of a hero? 2.
