PreIB10: World Literature and Composition Adkisson Unit 1: Epics, Flood Stories, Creation Myths, and Didactic Works Unit Goals, Objectives, Expectations, and Tentative Calendar Unit Goals and Objectives: 1. Students will be able to identify and track themes throughout a variety of short texts and analyze those themes in attempt to better understand the cultures from which those texts come. 2. Students will develop an understanding of a variety of literary terms and how those techniques are used to convey meaning and purpose in literature. 3. Students will compare and contrast literary works in search of commonalities and differences among people in Mesopotamia and Africa. 4. Students will call on personal experience and beliefs to better understand the literature they read and challenge their thinking. 5. Students will discuss literature in a community of learners in an attempt to better understand the text and the themes presented, as well as to challenge their thinking.
