DMA 327 OFFICE HOURS Independent TV Production (W 12:00-6:30pm) Dr. George Vinovich, Professor of Television/Film TTH 12:00-1:00 PM LCH A215 (310) 243-3945 [email protected] TTH 3:00-4:00 PM COURSE OBJECTIVE : advanced techniques and practice in producing, directing, and editing single-camera, film -style programs on an independent producer basis. Each student will serve as a co-producer in the production of a “team drama project” and will submit an individual Drama Project Report at the end of the semester. Prerequisite: DMA 322 and DMA 323. TEXT: Vinovich, 24P Camera Manual MATERIALS: (2) Mini-DV 60-min Video Tapes (Source Tapes for Location Shooting and Mastering) $4ea (1) Walkman Headphones with 1/8” Mini Plug (For monitoring audio on location) $10 (1) Leather Work Gloves (For handling Lighting Equipment on location) $3 (1) DP Kit (Assortment of gels and other expendables per DP Kit List in DMA 325) (*) Food and beverages for talent and crew on location shoots, rehearsals, and casting sessions. COURSE CONTENT 1. Pre-Production Phase - program concept and development; pitching the idea; script writing; shot blocking; location scouting; location clearances; unit managing; art direction; casting; auditioning; and talent releases. 2. Production Phase - practice in single-camera EFP location shooting; basic camera dolly and crane operations; shot composition; lighting on location; directing talent on location; continuity shooting; and boom microphone system operations on location. 3. Post Production - practice in window dubbing; shot logging; EDL (Edit Decision List); continuity editing on a Non-Linear system, and roll credits design and applications. PRODUCTION PROJECT - each student, in conjunction with his or her co-producer team, will produce a: DRAMA PRODUCTION - requires a minimum of “3” actors speaking lines in at least “2” separate sets for a total running time of 6-15 minutes including opening and closing credits.
