IT205 Programming Languages CP There are many differences between generation 1-4 and object-oriented programming. They are both programming application, but both used different formats and coding. With generation 1-4 the coding and formatting has come a long way since the 1940’s and 50’s. The coding used to manipulate date was simple. It only used two numeric keys. (0 and 1) Over the year the formatting became more specific using wording and special character in the format. They also use tags or markup to determine how a document will display on the monitor or be printed.

Object-oriented programming is similar in many ways to generation 3. They both use C++, Java, and Smalltalk for programming language. Object with a common value can be combined into a “class.” The programmer can create a “sub class;” which allows the programmer to add categories or fields without having to rewrite everything....
