RACE AND YOUR COMMUNITY 2 I would like to start by saying that in my community there are several racial demographics here. So I had gone to our local library nearby to consult with one of the librarians there to see what they may see. The reason for this is because the library tends to see a lot of people from my community. The name of the Liberian that I spoke with was Holly Merwin. She has been with the library for quite some time. I had asked her what her thoughts of the racial demographics for this community was. She replied that she believed that African Americans were the main racial demography for this area. I then explained to her that according to the 2010 census for this area alone was American Indian and Alaskan Native. She was very surprised at that remark. I would have to say myself I thought it was African American and Asian. The reason I say this is because I have seen more African American and Asian groups in this area than others. I also believe that Hispanics run a close second in this area as well. The next question I had asked Holly was if the leaders in our community represent all races and ethnicities within the community. She had to say that she didn’t know about this. I would have to agree as well with her, because I had no clue. I do believe that when I look at several aspects of the community I see that the schools, law enforcement and many other groups really represent all races and ethnicities.
