Jim Poss 1 Jim Poss At an early age, Jim Poss felt the best business opportunity would make it profitable to invest in superior energy systems. With this in mind Jim invented the “BigBelly”, through his enterprise, Seahorse Power Company (SPC). Using Timmon’s entrepreneurship framework (entrepreneur – opportunity- resources), it is clear that Jim focused on the opportunity and not the monetary gains. Before Jim even had a finished product or even a blueprint he was pitching his idea to his executives at the Spire Corporation. He was looking for them to invest in his concept of a solar- powered trash compactor, which would give him the opportunity to design and make his idea a reality. The executives did not believe the concept would ever work and did not invest in it. Jim researched the garbage industry and his findings supported his belief that the “BigBelly” could work and would be cost effective to companies. By Jim’s spring semester he had a clearer sense of the industry and the nature of the opportunity, as well as start up money and two team members. Jim and his team won patent
