Free-Response Question:  The electoral college has long been debated as an odd process in our American election system. What argument can be presented which supports the idea that the electoral college be replaced by a direct popular election of the president? Be sure to include the effect this change would have on political parties, and how it may alter presidential campaigning. What institutions would benefit most from direct elections? Thesis  Statement:  Major Point #1- Change on political  parties Presidential candidates would be altered to appeal to a wide base of the population; for example, he would have to be attractive for females Political parties would have to expand because there would need to be more media specialists and others promoting the presidents all over the country Third parties could run without Major Point #2-  Altering presidential  campaigning Presidental canidates would focus more on the issues of the people rather than their electors More money would
