Axia College Material Appendix D TV Character Evaluation Part I Write a summary of 350-700 words identifying the contributions of Freud, Jung, and Rogers. <Insert Response Here> Sigmund Freud, still known as the most influential psychodynamic theorists, focused mainly on the unconscious. The unconscious is all of the feelings, ideas, and thoughts that one is usually not aware of. Freud believed that human behavior is based on three types of unconscious drives or instincts; aggressive and destructive, hunger, self preservation and thirst, and finally the desire for pleasure. Freud believed the personality is formed by the ID, ego, and the superego. The ID is the only structure present when a child is born and is only unconscious. ID operates according to the pleasure principle, constantly trying to satisfy the need for pleasure and avoid the feeling of pain (Morris & Maisto, 2005, p. 419). The ego is the mechanism that controls all reasoning and thinking activities. The ego operates partly in the conscious, preconscious, and the unconscious.
