TIPS FOR NEW SUPERVISORS 2 Tips for New Supervisors This manual will demonstrate the appropriate methods for performing job duties as supervisor. This manual will help guide in the daily role as supervisor and will assist with some incidents that may arise for a supervisor to handle. The manual will cover the following methods. Demonstrating Communication Skills Communications is a large part of a supervisor’s tool in communicating with other employees. Developing good communications is an essential asset that supervisors do need to give directions, instruct, to influence, and persuade people. Supervisors spend most of their time communicating with employees, to motivate employees, and with dealing with customers. If a person does not have good communication skills, he or she would not be able to do their job effect. Supervisors need to give directions to employees would be more cooperative to do their job effectively. Communications is the key to good management skills without this skill a supervisor could not give guidance to their employees and the employee’s performance on-the- job would be bad. Supervisor with good communication skills would be able perform their job duties and would improve employee relations, handling

TIPS FOR NEW SUPERVISORS 3 issues, resolving conflicts, and improving productivity. Supervisors that practice good communication skills will have employees who will do the work assigned to them. Happy employees make the workplace easier to work in and employees do not mind going the extra mile to accomplish any tasks. When employees do good work it is always nice to let them know when they, have done a good job and that it is appreciated for the work that has been done. Determining Effective Orientation and Training Methods It is important that all new employees enter in the orientation and training program provide by the company prior to the beginning of their new job as salesclerks. In the orientation and training program will review and explain company policies and procedures, safety procedures, company goals for new employees. By implementing an orientation and training program, a company can expect to have better communications, knowledgeable employees increased productivity, improved employees’ satisfaction levels, a lower turnover that, which will keep the company from losing money and all new hires knows what to expect. Whether the company is large or small an orientation-training program is necessary and there should not be any
