Barnett Virus A computer virus is a program that is designed to reproduce and spread on their own, preferably without knowing who contaminated it. They spread by attaching themselves to other programs (such as your word processor or spreadsheet). Then, when a file with a virus when it is executed the virus will also be executed. Viruses can also attach its self to a program so it can reproduce without the victim’m knowledge. (Steve 1998). Viruses can also infect documents such as those created with a word processor. Infected documents are stored in a list of instructions called a macro, which is essentially a mini-program. Then, when the document is considered a macro it is activated. These viruses are called macro viruses, and in fact have 67.5% of all virus damage. Worms Worms are similar to viruses, in a different way, that they multiply and spread through out the system. The difference is that the programs or files don’ t need to ran in order to enhance the spread of the worm. Because of this, a worm can be very dangerous when it infects computer networks (Steve 1998). An Internet Worm was released on the Internet on November 2, 1988 and has spread to more than 6000 computers in less than a day. The total monetary value of this
