Sheet1 Page 1 SAFETY PROGRAM BACKGROUND: The city has a safety program that is administered by the Director of Safety. This division is under the Department of Administration. It is comprised of four safety inspectors and has an annual budget of approximately $175,000. It is the responsibility of this division to inspect the work places of the various city departments in order to insure that they are safe and conform to state and federal safety standards. In addition to this, the safety division investigates all traffic accidents involving city vehicles. It conducts defensive driving, first aid, and CPR classes for city employees. This division functions as the official liaison between the city and its state and federal counterparts. If the city is cited by these agencies for safety violations, then it is up to the safety division to coordinate the correction. Other duties of the division include, maintaining statistical data, preparation of reports for the state and federal governments, and the issuance of its own reports for city management use. SCOPE: The audit period is for the last twelve months for testing and compliance with state and federal regulations, and the last day of the field work for the evaluation of internal control.
