1 EECS 215 W08 Problem Set #5 Assigned: Monday, 11-Feb-2008 Due: Friday, 22-Feb-2008 Homework is due at the beginning of lecture. Reading Assignment: Class notes 1. Determine the diode current ( I D ) and voltage ( V D ) for the circuit to the right for V DD =5V, R =8k , I 0 =10 -14 A, and kT/q=0.026V. Use the diode model where ( ) 1 / 0 = kT qV D D e I I . This requires the solution of a transcendental equation , where you will need to use a special “solver” (calculator, Matlab, etc), iterative method, numerical technique, etc. You may choose any of these methods to solve, but you MUST indicate how you have solved (and include a copy of source code, etc, where applicable). 2. In your first lab this semester (DC Lab), you took Current-Voltage data for a light emitting diode (LED). For this LED, determine the current and voltage for the LED in the case where the diode is connected in the circuit of problem 1, where R =400 and V DD =3V. Use the graphical circuit analysis method defined below. a. Obtain the data file for the diode on the CTools website, called “diode_IV.m”. The file is a text file that can be used directly in Matlab to input the diode current and voltage. Plot current versus voltage for the diode using Matlab or other
