Assignment 4 Due Date: April 25, 2011 11:59:00 PM CDT; 9-41, 10-36, 11-B2 9-41 p 415 Cycle time reporting Analyze circuit board cycle time performance in light of the 26.0-hr standard cycle time for one if its computer printed circuit boards. Week Units Total cycle time (hrs) Objective (hrs) Variance (hrs) Time/board (hrs) 1 564 14,108 14,664 556 25.01 2 544 14,592 14,144 (448) 26.82 3 553 15,152 14,378 (774) 27.40 4 571 16,598 14,846 (1,752) 29.07 5 547 17,104 14,222 (2,882) 31.27 6 552 16,673 14,352 (2,321) 30.20 Total 3331 94,227 86,606 (7,621) 28.29 Analysis: In reviewing the production time data gathered, it is clear that the Pierre plant is not producing its circuit boards as fast as expected, but the information alone does not provide clear reasons why. During these 6 weeks, they have used 7,621 more hours than their objective standard. The trend in this data shows that cycle times have increased each week until week 6, and then it was still 16% higher than objective levels (2321hrs*100%/14352hrs). Something needs to be done to correct this trend. This could be incentives, training, or improved oversight to keep production on target. The production team proved they could be 26.0 hrs/board the first week – they just did not keep up this performance level. If time permitted, a more detailed analysis would benefit if production could target a specified number of
