Hello class and Professor,
1. My name is Napre Hayag, I was born in the month of December.
2. Informatics to me involves processing and communicating information through different technological
systems. With the organization I work for we use the electronic medical record system EPIC as a data and
communication system.
It allows for the interdisciplinary team to view patient records, notes, labs, and
test results for better collaboration and delivery of care.
3. My knowledge on informatics is very limited, I would like to learn as much as I can about health
informatics. Specifically, what role does informatic plays in the future of healthcare.

Informatics is used to communicate, interpret and manage data (McGonigle & Mastrian,
2018). As regards to healthcare; informatics it’s considered the use of technology to improve and
implement care for our patients, maintaining patient records, communicating with clinicians and
other team members, conducting research, reducing errors, and maintain patient privacy (Otokiti,
2019). For instance, the use of electronic health record (EHR) like EPIC to document patient
trends in vitals and laboratory results to monitor treatment effectively. Prior to the Pre-TANIC
self-assessment I felt that my informatics competency levels were low. This is due to me not
really using computers outside of work and with my education. After the assessment, I found that
I have more computer knowledge than expected. For example, I know basic computers concepts
like saving, uploading, and sharing files and other data. I also found that I am proficient or
competent in many of the statements in clinical information management and information
literacy.
Nursing informatics (NI) is considered the integration of computer science and nursing
science to support patient care outcomes through the use of technology, knowledge, and skill
(Sandmeyer, Anderson & Shaw, 2017). There are several NI competencies outlined by the
Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform (TIGER) initiative that nurses should
acquire to advance in the use of technology for knowledge and professional development
(Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society [HIMSS], 2020). Two competencies
that are currently used in my clinical role fall within the information literacy and clinical
information management components of the TIGER competency model. Under the information
