What I have learned from reading (Bevan, 2020 Section 4.1) is some language is consider improper or unacceptable in almost all contexts. Biased language presents information in a way that shows preference for or against a certain point of view, shows prejudice, or is demanding to others (Bevan, 2020).An example of biased language I seen in some computer-mediated interactions was when my friends and I was going out for a girls night out and I was running late so I decided to text my friends to let them know I was going to be a few minutes late because I needed to drop my kids off at the babysitters house. My friend texted back and made a comment “I guess your on black people time”. Even though I knew she was joking because she is my friend who is also an African American, she did not know how I would receive the message. Biased language reflects the attitude, behaviors and perception of the sender because they could just be making a comment not realizing that it could potentially hurt someone or offend them.
