Regarding Contingency Tables: Several of the homework problems ask you to draw the contingency table. It is really useful to do this, as it compels you to think carefully about events and sample space. When drawing the table, it doesn’t matter which pair of events you list vertically and which pair you list horizontally. Please download the file 52-card deck from Doc Sharing and bring a hard copy to class next week. 4.7 (a) The joint probability of mutually exclusive events (being a Republican and a Democrat) is zero.
