Unformatted text preview: Making Soap Int roduction: Soap is usually a salt or a fatty acid obtained by treating vegetable or animal fat with strongly alkaline solution, such fats are composed of triglycerides: three molecules of fatty acids attached to a single molecule of glycerol, The alkaline solution, often lye promotes the saponification reaction where fats are broken down by hydrolization yielding a crude form of soap, glycerol is liberated and glycerine is formed as a by-product.
