Morgan’s experiments showed a connection between a genetic trait and the inheritance of a sex chromosome in Drosophila. Morgan was an embryologist who worked with the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. Normally, Drosophila individuals have red eyes. However, by using X-rays, Morgan was able to generate a fly that had a mutation for white eyes.
