Question 1. (30 marks)
In a company, there are two suppliers for a type of component that makes a certain
product. Based on past data, the weight of component from both suppliers is
approximately normally distributed with a mean of 50.0. It is also known that for
Supplier A, the standard deviation of the weight is 0.5 while for Supplier B, it is 1.0.
Answer the following questions. State all your assumptions and show the details.
(a)
What is the probability that a component has a weight less than 50.5 given that it is
from Supplier A? What is this probability if the item is from Supplier B?
