ROUGH DRAFT 2 Rough draft Marijuana is the future! While it will not stop crime completely, legalization of marijuana will help the economy and many who are seriously ill. Legalization is a solution to our nation’s debt. Furthermore it would decrease our unemployment rates by creating more jobs. Crimes related to marijuana would drastically decrease, and fewer families would be torn apart. Marijuana is one of the safest medicinal substances on the planet it can help many individuals suffering from serious illnesses such as asthma, glaucoma, depression, nausea and decreased appetite. Should marijuana drugs be legalized in America? This is the question that has caused so much debate. The table below shows our country’s annual causes of death by cause the numbers are surprising. Annual causes of death by cause Tobacco 435,000 Alcohol induced 23,199 Adverse Reactions to Prescription Drugs 32,000 All Illicit Drug Use, Direct and Indirect 17,000 Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs Such As Aspirin 7,600 Marijuana 0 500,799 people die annually from legal drugs and out of that 44,600 American’s die due to prescription and over the counter drug like Aspirin. Furthermore, there is not a single death related to marijuana (Get The Facts. (2011)).

ROUGH DRAFT 3 That Marijuana is a multibillion-dollar war In 2000 there were 734,498 people arrested the FBI’s records show that this is the highest ever. Prohibition is a waste of money taxpayers are paying billions to arrest, prosecute, and imprison marijuana user. Instead of incarcerating marijuana users it should be regulated like tobacco and alcohol. The money made from marijuana could be used to better our schools and healthcare. Marijuana prohibition is no better an idea than alcohol prohibition was in the 1920’s. People should have the right to choose whether the use or don’t use without repercussion Furthermore anything can be abused we just need to regulate its use and educate individuals; because prohibition is not the answer it does not help anyone (2007). Legalizing Marijuana would be good thing instead of cops focusing on someone with
