WHAT is HYDRO POWER?  Hydroelectricity  is the term referring to electricity generated by hydropower; the  production of electrical power through the use of the gravitational force of falling or  flowing water. It is the most widely used form of renewable energy. Once a hydroelectric  complex is constructed, the project produces no direct waste, and has a considerably  lower output level of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide  (CO 2 ) than fossil fuel powered  energy plants.  In hydrology , hydropower is manifested in the force of the water on the riverbed and  banks of a river. It is particularly powerful when the river is in flood. The force of the  water results in the removal of sediment and other materials from the riverbed and banks  of the river, causing erosion and other alterations.

Historically… Pumped hydro was first used in Italy and Switzerland in  the 1890's.  By 1933 reversible pump-turbines with motor-generators  were available Adjustable speed machines now used to improve  efficiency Pumped hydro is available at almost any scale with  discharge times ranging  from several hours to a  few days. Efficiency = 70 – 85%   3 http://www.electricitystorage.org/tech/technologies_technologies_pumpedhydro.htm

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
