Religion pg 2 “The American Religious Identification Survey, released earlier this year, reports that 34 million Americans claim no religion - up from 14 million in 1990. This category now outranks the combined total of all the non-Christian religious groups” (Anonymous). One must wonder why or how could such a thing happen in America, were religious freedoms flourish. Christianity has been the foundation of the United States since its beginnings and until present day. Could it be that 34 million American have lost faith in god or that the religious teachings were found to be false and not bible teaching. Many have become disillusioned about religious beliefs and the hypocrisy of many churches. I feel that the question that these 34 million American is there a one true religion out there that doesn’t proclaim to be true but actually shows its not. In American there are three major Christian religious groups, Catholics, Baptist, and Evangelicals each believe in god the father and Jesus the son. Then that were their similarity stops with so many different beliefs how can one pick a faith and proclaim it to be the truth. Is there only one true religion that holds true to the bible and its teaching and stay true to American beliefs, its possible? The views on homosexuality, Abortion, given money to the church, and the influence religious groups have on government has left a sour taste in the mouth of many American who believe that the separation line between church and state has been blurred. Within recent time I’ve seen that line between church and state really vanish,

Religion pg 3 schools now want to have prayer in public schools, nativity displays on state property, and the Ten Commandments being displayed inside of a court house. The founding father made an amendment to the constitution, Amendment I (1791) Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. The first part of this intendment is very clear Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. Lately there has been a pushed to banned same sex marriages in many states across America and the main opponent of this is the religious right to push there agenda of no same sex marriage with the use of political influence and so far they have been successful. With hate speech on the rise due to same sex marriages and with politician fanning the flames on this subject, many wonder how far religious leaders will go. And that was answered when President Bush was willing to violate the constitution so that it could say that a marriage is between a woman and a man based on religious influence and maybe personal bias against homosexuals. Religious groups has always been in politics but it has been on a small scale until the
