INTRODUCTION Americans dominated the automobile industry uptill Second world war but after that other technologically advanced countries started to dominate the industry and flooded the market, especially japan and germany.Current studies show that automobile industries in developed countries have been stagnating,while the industry in developing countries have been consistently registering higher growth rates. In Pakistan the total contribution to GDP by automobile industry was 2.8% which likely to rise to 5.6% in next five years automobile sector contributes upto16% of manufacturing sector currently which is likely to rise to 25% in next 5 years. In 2008, more than 70 million motor vehicles, including cars and commercial vehicles were produced worldwide. [1] In 2007, a total of 71.9 million new automobiles were sold worldwide: 22.9 million in Europe , 21.4 million in Asia-Pacific , 19.4 million in USA and Canada, 4.4 million in Latin America , 2.4 million in the Middle East and 1.4 million in Africa . [2] The markets in North America and Japan were stagnant, while those in South America and other parts of Asia grew strongly.
