Act 1 - Algernon's flat in London o Much information revealed Jack has two names: Ernest in the city, Jack in the country Ernest is in love with Gwendolyn He proposes to Gwendolyn, who loves him for his name, Ernest Gwendolyn's mother does not approve Jack does not know who his parents are He was found in a train station in a handbag Algernon overhears Jack's country address Act 2 - Garden at Jack's Manor House o We meet Miss Prism and Cecily studying in the garden o Cannon Chasuble and Miss Prism go for a walk o Algernon shows up pretending to be Ernest, Uncle Jack's brother o Jack returns home announcing that his brother is dead o The "brothers" make up o Jack wants Algernon, a.k.a. Ernest, to leave immediately o Algernon asks Cecily to marry him o She announces that they are already engaged - proof of it is in her journal o She loves him for his name, Ernest o Both men decide to get christened that day in order to get the new name Ernest o Gwendolyn arrives
